The Taiwanese Youth Folk Sport Troupe (TYFST) is a group of folk art enthusiasts from the coastal city of Keelung in, Taiwan, and the TYFST’s mission is to promote traditional Taiwanese folk arts. In hopes to preserve and pass the heritage of folk arts and traditional sports techniques to future generations. In 1975, TYFST established the “rope skipping” and “diabolo spinning teams”. For over 40 years, TYFST’s coaches have taught young people the basic skills of rope skipping, diabolo spinning and top twirling, and shown the students how to incorporate these elements into sports, music and dance. TYFST’s coaches have also designed innovative and artistic methods of creative folk arts. The young students like to practice in their free time. Under the guidance of coaches and teachers, the students are both excellent in curricula and folk sports. Because of their outstanding performances and good results in competitions, TYFST is highly recognized in both Taiwan and abroad. Please enjoy as TYFST takes you on a fantastic journey into Taiwan’s fascinating traditional folk arts and folk sports.
